A Holistic Approach
Food is more than what is on your plate. Relationships with family, friends, and significant others, as well recreation, career, and spiritual practice all provide you with nourishment. Let's look at what is going on in your life, we can draw connections to how this effects your food choices. By creating balance within these systems, the food on your plate becomes secondary to the other areas of life which also nourish you.
Everything is connected. Your food choices effect how you feel and how you feel effects how you act and respond. For example, in times of stress, whether it be from work or a relationship, do you have a tendency to eat too little? Do you find yourself eating when you are not hungry, perhaps out of boredom? Does lack of energy prevent you from exercising? Looking at all the different areas in your life allows us to take a holistic approach to nutrition so that you can meet your goals.
As I have mentioned, there is no one diet that works for everyone. If you have ever tried a diet and failed, it is time to realize that it is not you who failed the diet. The diet failed you! Bio-individuality is a concept which indicates that each and every person has his/her own nutritional needs. Too many time we get hung up on fad diets and what the "experts" are saying is good or not good for us. This combines with our own thoughts and the result is that we clinge to a way of eating that doesn't necessarily working for us. I will help you examine a variety of factors such as current health, activity/fitness level, age, and most importantly your own personal preferences to help determine what will work best for you. By raising your self-awareness, you will become more in tune with your body.
A balanced approach is important for success. Therefore, I will help you implement small, realistic changes to your current lifestyle that are both doable and enjoyable. The focus is placed on "adding in", whether it be more fruits, vegetables, quality grains, protein or water which will help you naturally decrease the amount of processed, low nutrient dense foods that you might be eating. This combines with the holistic approach of looking at all aspects of life both on the plate and beyond, and ultimately creates a senses of true well being.
